History of Belur Sramajibi Swasthya Prakalpa Samity is a history of non-stop hard work for the realization of dreams, bit by bit, everyday, every moment –detail description of which is impossible in this short space. We are only trying to enumerate yearly milestones.
1982
Health check up & treatment of Indo Japan Steel Ltd workers at the factory by the People’s Health Service Association doctors.
1983
Belur Sramajibi Swasthya Prakalpa was formed in collaboration with Indo Japan Steel Ltd. Employees Union - an organization of the workers & People’s Health Service Association – an organization of the junior doctors and was inaugurated in Khamarpara, Belur, Howrah.
1984
Minor Surgery, Medical check-ups started in co-operation with different social organizations particularly for the benefits of the weaker section .
1985
Health Camp and Free Surgical Operation (under local anaesthesia) was organized in the remote villages of Bankura, Burdwan, 24 Parganas(S) districts, for the benefit of the poorer section of the society.
1986
Blood Donation Camp was organized successfully - which became an yearly affair on 1st May jointly with Netaji Janmotsav Committee, Belur.
1987
Started regular Health Awareness Programs.
1988
Increasing needs prompted the Health Centre to be shifted to NISCO with the help of Nisco Union.
1989
X-Ray Department established and started functioning.
1990
Surgery initiated in Health Centre in NISCO.
1991
Free Surgery (under local anaesthesia) camps organized.
1992
‘Sramajibi Fair’ involving different communities of the weaker section, encouraging cottage industry and cultural activities, was organized. The Fair was helpful in creating social awareness and eradicating superstitions. Belur Sramajibi Swasthya Prakalpa Samity was registered under Society registration Act.
1993
Mobile Health Centre started functioning with the help of various workers and fraternal organizations in rural backward areas.
1994
Indoor Medical and Surgical units started with the skills, expertise and active involvement of the workers at 5, G.T. Road, Howrah.
A Musical Fair – first of it’s kind in West Bengal – was organized.
Closure declared in Indo Japan Steel Factory. The workers of this factory, the Backbone of our project, became jobless overnight. We continued undeterred despite this severe blow trying to help them to form Industrial Co-operative to manufacture and market Acupuncture Needles throughout the country.
1997
A sudden uncalled for attack on Sramajibi Hospital, its staffs, workers and patients by the unholy vested nexus of Promoters , hooligans, and a part of the state administration without any reason whatsoever. Several damages was caused also. All these created a hue and cry among the civil society of the state as well as different social organizations like APDR, NAGORIK MANCHA etc. The culprits were rightly reprimanded by Calcutta High Court as well as Human Rights Commission.
1998
To extend the benefits of scientific advancement to the poorest section of the society “Laparoscopic Surgery” was introduced.
1999
Fortnightly Health Camp was arranged in Sarberia - a remote area of Sundarbon, offering helps to the suffering millions. Also helped in forming Sarberia Krishichakra where the poor village workers procured, powdered, and marketed pure quality spices with the help of Belur Sramajibi Hospital. Thus it’s a point to be noted that Sramajibi Hospital showed a concern for the distressed workers (Accupuncture Needles) as well as for the distressed farmers (Sarberia Krishichakra) helping them to survive. The projects are still going on successfully.
2000
“Sramajibi Bhander” – a unique fund collection activity involving every member of the Sramajibi family was initiated where each one including the children contributed their daily savings in Keeping with the slogan – “At least a coin a day”- making the total savings at the end of the year substantial.
2001
Inauguration of - (a) Image Intensifier Machine ( to perform orthopaedic surgery more accurately.) (b) Laparo Choledocho Fibroscopic set – another Scientific advancement in the field of Laparoscopic Surgery.
2002
Inauguration of RNTCP (Revised National TB Control Program). Sundarban Sramajibi Hospital with indoor facility was established. Early Cancer Detection Centre was inaugurated.
2003
First complex Heart Operation was performed successfully on a daily wage earner.
2004
‘Hriday Chhuinye’ project was launched to build a fund of Rs One Crore for starting Open Heart Surgery unit.
2005
To make Cardiac Surgery truly accessible even to the poorer section, ‘Hriday Chhuinye’ project could be materialized with the help of many individuals as well as institutions. Cardiac Surgery started in full flow at the lowest cost of Rupees Twenty Five Thousand only. Also started Sramajibi Swasthya Prakalpa Kendra at Agarpara (24 pgns – N) and Sheoraphuli (Hooghly).
2006
Cornea Replacement Centre was inaugurated. At the same time units for Dialysis, Endoscopy, Colanoscopy, ERCP were Opened. Another Sramajibi Swasthya Prakalpa Kendra at Ukhra (Burdwan) was inaugurated.
2007
Colour Doppler Machine was introduced. On the occasion of 25 year completion- year long monthly discussions on Health Awareness started and broadcasted in local cable channels.
2008
25 years completion. 7 days’ colourful Sramajibi Fair with the participation of different organizations & thousands of common people from all walks of life and society. Also organized cultural programs, seminars, health awareness programs.
2009
“Chai Swasthya Chai Pran” project was conceptualized for a 500 bed Super Speciality Hospital cum Medical College in rural West Bengal . Sundarban Sramajibi Hospital was upgraded to a full fledged 24 bed hospital.
2010
A piece of land had been procured for 500 bed Super speciality Hospital in village – Bellumilky, district – Hooghly near Serampur.
2011
The construction programme started from 17th April, 2011 by Shromdan from everyone present. Inauguration of the project was on Ist May, 2011 and the Outdoor was started from 7th May, 2011.
2012
As per the set target the Indoor facility of the new Hospital at Serampur has been inaugurated on 26 January, 2012.
2013
Sramajibi Pathsala formal education to school dropouts from lower socio-economic strata of society and continuing non-formal skill based education for them started.
2014
On 26 January, 2014 inauguration of Cath Lab in order to establish a comprehensive Cardio Thoracic unit at Serampore Sramajibi Hospital. In the same year “Dr. Janmejoy Chaudhuri Cancer Centre and a Dialysis Unit was also started
2015
Foundation stone of Sramajibi Hospital, Kopai, Birbhum laid.
2016
Foundation stone of Sramajibi Pathsala, Bally, Howrah laid.
2017
Sramajibi Hospital, Kopai and Sramajibi Pathsala, Bally started functioning.
2019
Commencement of GDA and MLT course of Utkarsha Bangla Project of Govt. of WB and Commencement of GNM course affiliated to Govt. of WB, WBNC and INC.
2020
Commencement of “Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Technology” course of West Bengal University of Health Sciences
Serampore Sramajibi Hospital serve as COVID Hospital.
2021
After treating over 2000 COVID -19 patients, Serampore Sramajibi Hospital resumed its regular activities as Super Specialty Hospital.
Installation process of 32-slice C T Scan machine has been started at Serampore Sramajibi Hospital.

The course curriculum is great and the faculty members are very
friendly they help a lot and guide us in a very good manner.
Placements from our college is average.almost 55% students get
placements in campus interview.others do not qualify in the
campus.some of our college teachers are the members of our
college placement cell.they try their best for every student's
placements.
My faculty right from the first semester took us for plenty of
visits to various hotels as well as to a food truck factory.
Well experienced and talented faculties are there in our
college.their way of teaching and devotion to study is
commendable.they want to give every student propers training and
teaching so that after passing out they can easily get their
desired job.
No i am not residing in the hostel, but the hostel here is
awesome , the rooms are provided on sharing basis and the rooms
are air-conditioned ,food provided in hostel is also very good.
Sramajibi Academy Of Nursing ,kolkata is a good institute for
engineering.i got admitted in the college this year ,the college
is having well equipped labs.
